Items We Cannot Accept

It's hard to say "no thank you" to a donation. However, the costs of handling or disposal of infrequently requested items requires funds that would otherwise support our programs and services in the community. Management reserves the right to refuse any donation. Please dispose of these items through an alternative responsible resource, such as your local recycling center. Unfortunately, we cannot accept certain items including but not limited to:

  • Large household appliances. Stoves, refrigerators, washers, dryers, air conditioners, water heaters.
  • Large items that do not work. TVs, microwave ovens, copy machines.
  • Building materials. Carpet, shutters, doors, windows, toilets, lumber, concrete, bricks, stones.
  • Mattresses and box springs. These cannot be repurposed due to state laws requiring them to be sanitized.
  • Furniture -- good or damaged.
  • Televisions.
  • Automobile parts. Tires, wheels, batteries, seats, body parts and engines.
  • Paint and chemicals of any kind. Cannot dispose of these items in a landfill.
  • Kerosene and gas heaters and appliances. Quin Rivers is not licensed to handle items of this kind and disposal is expensive and highly restricted.
  • Large truck loads of items. Quin Rivers has little storage space.
  • Weapons, guns, ammunition, and related items.
  • CPSC frequently recalled items. Infant furniture, car seats, exercise equipment, baby cribs, strollers, carriages, playpens/play yards, children's items containing lead or phthalates.

These lists are to be used as guidelines. There may be other items not listed that we can use or which must be turned down due to size, condition or suitability. Please contact Gwen Kitson with any questions.
